As the new season continues with the second match week starting tomorrow, I will give my prediction for the Team of the Season. As we have already seen anything can happen in the Premier League, and every game is very competitive. This season could be one of the very best seasons in Premier League history.
Thibaut Courtois, Chelsea
I think this season Courtois will shine through and really prove why he is rated as one of the very best keepers in the world. At just 23, Courtois has already started in a Champions League final with Atlético Madrid and has worked his way to become Chelsea’s number 1. Courtois also has played in the World Cup with Belgium and I believe he will standout for Chelsea this season.
Branislav Ivanovic, Chelsea
Ivanovic made the PFA Team of the Season last year and I think this year will be no different. He has proven every year why he is one of the best right backs in the world. He scored 6 goals in all competitions for Chelsea last season and he will continue to score goals with headers from corners and set pieces.
Vincent Kompany, Manchester City
The Belgian struggled to find his form last year and control City’s shaky defense, but things will change this season. He will control City’s defense and lead them as he has in the past as their captain. Being one of the best center backs in the league, he will show why he belongs on the Team of the Season.
John Terry, Chelsea
The Premier League veteran is entering his 18th season in the league and it looks as if he is only getting better with age. The strong, commanding center back will pick up where he left off last season and stop all attacks that come his way. The dedication and effort he puts into defending is remarkable and it will lead him back to claiming a Team of the Season roster spot.
Aaron Cresswell, West Ham
He had a breakout year last year when he led a somewhat shaky West Ham defense. He started all 38 games, and looks to do the exact same this year. He could break into the England squad and make his first international appearance while leading West Ham’s back line.
Santi Cazorla, Arsenal
Last year Alexis Sanchez took the spotlight whenever Arsenal’s midfield was talked about, but little Santi Cazorla had a very impressive year. Cazorla has great vision and some of the best passing skills in the Premier League. He has the potential to compete for the top assists in the league while earning a spot on the Team of the Season.
Cesc Fabregas, Chelsea
Fabregas had the best season of any player last year, leading the league in assists. He is a dynamic midfielder that played a big part in leading Chelsea to the title. I do not see any reason why he won’t recreate that success this year. Expect high numbers in the assist department again.
Eden Hazard, Chelsea
Hazard dominated the premier league with his dazzling skills and ability to find goals last year. Teams will struggle to find a way to defend him once again and he will improve on what was a stellar season last year. He is the best player in the league, and will earn a well-deserved spot once again on the Team of the Season.
André Ayew, Swansea City
Ayew is playing in his first season in the Premier League after signing for Swansea City from Marseille in the summer. He is a strong candidate to have a breakout season and finish with high numbers for both goals and assists. Don’t expect something every game from the Ghanaian, but there will be games where he dominants the entire attack.
Harry Kane, Tottenham
Last year’s breakout star, the 22 year old Englishmen led Tottenham to a top five finish while scoring 31 goals in all competitions. This year, he will continue with his great scoring record and rack up another 20+ goal season in the Premier League. He always finds a way to be in the right position and score goals in a way that few players can.He also has some of the top finishing skills in the league, and he will find himself on the Team of the Season again.
Wayne Rooney, Manchester United
One of the most well known players in the Premier League, Wayne Rooney will lead Manchester United to success this season. With almost no other forwards, United will have to play Rooney up top, and it should pay off. Rooney knows how to score in this league and has been doing it for years. The English legend still has a lot left in the tank.
Gary Monk, Swansea City
Coming into his second season as manager of Swansea City, the young coach has got his team in a perfect position. He made some of the best signings in the last two transfer windows, and leads a very dangerous squad this season. This season will show, with big results against top teams, why Monk is a tactical genius. He very well could lead Swansea to a top seven finish this year.
