Microtech Card Reader Driver For Mac

Microtech appears to have updated this support page with a fix for using their latest card reader drivers with 10.1.3. There is also a new page on 10.1.3 specific drivers for the ZiO!. In addition, another reader sent us this procedure (which we have not tested ourselves) that explains how he got his CameraMate to work reliably. Richard Bottiglieri writes:

'For my USB Cameramate, I tried removing the eUSB SmartMedia10.1.2.kext file from the /System/Library/Extensions directory, but the card would not work. I tried reinstalling, then performing this fix again (just to be sure), but again with no luck. Finally, I logged in as root, removed the eUSB SmartMedia10.1.2.kext file (again), and opened a terminal session. I used the following commands, in this order (from the /System/Library/Extensions' directory):

I have a Microtech Zio USB CompactFlash card reader. I used to use it on a machine running Mac OS 9, and it worked great. I used to use it on a machine running Mac OS 9, and it worked great. Now, however, I’m using Mac OS X full-time, and I wanted to try the Zio.

  1. kextunload 'eUSB SmartMedia10.1.2.kext'
  2. kextunload 'eUSB SmartMedia.kext'
  3. kextload 'eUSB SmartMedia.kext'

You'll notice that when performing step 2, the OS states that the extension was successfully unbinded. Once I did this, it works without any problems, reboot after reboot. I then trashed the eUSB SmartMedia10.1.2.kext file. Also, be sure the permissions on the driver allow everyone 'Read Only.'

All see our previous coverage on these drivers. (Thanks also, John Clark and others.)

Gary, welcome to Apple Discussions.
I use a Macsense model CR-101 http://store.macsensestore.com/cr-101.html USB card reader on my G4 that operates when booted to both OS 9.x & OS 10.4. It was plug 'n play (i.e., no driver required). It also works on my G3 Pismo laptop running Tiger.
The problem could be with your old card reader. When I got a new camera I bought a larger 4GB SDHC card, but my old card reader wouldn't work (It would read a plain SD card.). The Macsense card reader does work. Is your card SDHC?
 Cheers, Tom 😉
